EMDR Therapy
Are you feeling hopeless?
Like, you have an invisible wound that one can see. Maybe it’s a painful childhood, religious trauma, a bad relationship, or a recent trauma.
Maybe you have a lived experience as a person of color, transgender, LGBTQIA+, or neurodivergent. It can be tough to live with these identities in a world that often doesn’t understand.
Maybe you feel guilty, like somehow you’re the problem? You feel like you just can’t “get over it”? You think, “If I were different, everything would be better.”
Perhaps you spend so much energy trying to fit into the world, that you aren’t living in the present.
You are tempted to try to blend in and ignore your pain, but you know that comes at the cost of true healing.
To cope, you numb out with food or alcohol or Instagram, but the next day, you’re still in pain.
Maybe when you lie awake at night, you wonder if you are flawed.
If there’s something fundamentally wrong with you while everyone else seems fine.
And you’ve tried SO MANY THINGS.
You’ve tried talk therapy.
You’ve tried yoga.
You’ve tried meditation apps.
You follow well-being influencers online.
You’ve tried journaling.
You read self-help books.
You talk to your friends.
But nothing seems to work?
You’re beginning to wonder if this is the best your life can be.
Sure, you’re depressed and anxious most of the time.
Sure, you have constant self-doubt and you’re always comparing yourself to others.
Sure, you say “yes” when you really mean “no.”
But maybe you should just be “grateful” for what you have and leave well-enough alone.
In your darkest moments, you worry that on your death bed
You will have lived a ho-hum life that was “fine,” but you’ll always wonder if it could have been more beautiful than this?
We have all had painful life experiences.
Pain. Stress. Sadness. Worry.
But we all metabolize and make sense of that pain differently.
Different types of pain stick with us differently.
EMDR therapy asks, “What’s stuck that’s causing yuck?”
Maybe it’s trauma.
Maybe it’s negative self-talk.
Maybe it’s a bad habit that you want to break.
Rationally, you know you don’t want to keep struggling with this issue and yet, you do.
So, now what?
EMDR therapy can be helpful for symptoms of trauma and an abundance of other issues. You do not have to be diagnosed with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) in order to experience benefits of EMDR therapy.
Your pain matters to me.
EMDR therapy can help
EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. It’s a type of structured therapy that encourages a person to think about past adverse life experiences while simultaneously experiencing
side-to-side eye movements, called bilateral stimulation (BLS). Not hypnosis!
I am a certified EMDR practitioner and I have personally witnessed transformation that just doesn’t occur with traditional talk-therapy alone.
I love EMDR because clients don’t have to talk about the most painful moments of their lives again and again and again in order to see results. We just trust your nervous system to help heal itself. It’s pretty remarkable.
I help clients:
heal and recover from painful experiences
learn how to appropriately hold what happened in the context of the rest of their lives
feel capable and confident
feel more grounded and in touch with their mind, body, and spirit
be more present in their lives
learn to have compassion for themselves
re-engage meaningfully with healthy relationships
improve focus and concentration
get a better night’s sleep
regain a sense of presence and control
get back out there and enjoy their lives!
